Welcome Year 3 Parents and Carers
23.01.20
Yew Class have had a fabulous start to the Spring term and so far have really enjoyed the new topic, Asia. We recieved an exciting package, which we think came from Asia, containing clues to the counrty that we will be studying for the whle term. We are looking at China and are very excited. This term we have already looked at counting to 10 in Mandarin (safe to say we need a bit more practise!), we have learnt a little about some of the most famous landmarks in China and we have begun to locate The Uk, Europe, China and Asia on the world map.
In science, we have continued looking at types of rocks and how they are formed. In Art we are designing and making our own chinese dragons and in RE we have begun looking at creation stories across many different religions. E-safety is our focus in computing this term and in PSHE we are looking at living in the wider world, accepting other people's differences and learning how to debate.
We are working hard otwards creating our own information leaflets in English and we are aslowly cracking Fractions in Maths.
I will endevour to keep you more updatd this term on all we get up to and achieve.
I have also changed the homework day to Thursday this term . It will be sent home on thursdays and due back in on Tuesdays. I have explained this to the children, I hope this is okay with everyone.
Thankyou

I would firstly like to give my apologies for not having written on here for a while. It has been an extremely busy few weeks and I am sorry to have not updated you sooner.
We have had a very busy week this week and the children of Yew Class should feel very proud of themselves. They coped really well with me being off ill on Monday and the supply teacher, who came in a last minute, told me they were fantastic. We had our class ‘Walk in Chulmleigh’ on Wednesday and again the children were fabulous representatives of the School. As you are aware, we also had Ofsted in for two days this week and I was very proud of how the children carried on as normal and responded wonderfully when the inspectors dropped into see our learning. Finally, today has been Children in Need and we have had a fun filled, sporty day to recognise the cause.
There are parents evenings next week so if you haven’t already, sign up for a time slot. I have availability on both days (Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th) so either check the sign up sheet on the classroom door or send me an email.
I hope you all have restful weekends and I look forward to seeing you all next week.

Happy Friday!
Another great week had by Yew Class. The children have all settled into their second week well and despite it being rather hot they have managed to produce some fantastic work.
We started the week off looking att he 'Growth Mindset' and the children have been able to apply it to lots of situations this week. We have been learning about character descriptions in English and have continued with place value in Maths.
In Art Yew class continued their work on portraits and in RE we looked at the story of the Budda.
We learnt more about the Stone Age and made comparisons to how we live today. In science and outdoor education we carried on learning about the human skeleton and created a skeleton in our Woody Wonders area using natural resources.
We finished the week learning about the Global Climate Strike that has been happening today. The children watched a video and discussed ways in whihc we can help. They produced some brilliant posters whihc we will be finishing off on Monday and then hopefully displaying in the school.
Have a fabulous weekend,
See you on Monday!
Mrs De-Ritis :)

Hello!
What a fab first full week Yew Tree have had! We has been very busy composing rhyming couplets in English and revisiting 'Place value' in Maths. Yew Tree have also put together a 'start of the year' time capsule and buried it in the Woody Wonders area in school during Outdoor Education. In Science we looked at the skeleton and in History we began exploring Prehistoric Britain with a view to studying the Stone Age for the rest of the term. With Mrs Walsh, Yew Class have produced some fantastic self portraits influenced by the artists Picasso and Warhol in Art and in RE they have started to look Buddhism.
I hope you all have a restful weekend and enjoy the sun.
Don't forget PE kits need to be in for PE on Wednesday and Friday and our outdoor education day is Wednesday.
See you Monday,
Mrs De-Ritis
